Alex Burns

B.A. (Hons.), Dip. Psych., MBPsS
Director of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Together with Jill Singer I am co-founder of the North West London Psychotherapy Centre. I have been practicing as a psychotherapist for more than 30 years, offering psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling to individuals and couples.

My therapeutic approach will offer you a supportive, gentle and reflective environment in which to explore the possible causes of the difficulties you are experiencing and the resulting emotions that arise. Consequently, over time, you will have the opportunity to gain a much deeper understanding of yourself, which will also bring increased clarity to your relationships with others.

I specialise in a wide range of issues and have a particular interest in the possible links between organic illness and emotional distress.

After completing a degree in Psychology I was a member of the Psychology Department of Middlesex University where I lectured in Child and Adolescent Development. My postgraduate training as a Psychotherapist was at the Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies (IPSS).

After qualifying, I began my private practice in London, and, for over a decade, was involved in the training and supervision of post-graduate level psychotherapists. I became joint Course Director for the MA/Diploma Course in Psychotherapy at the IPSS, as well as Vice-Chair of the Institute’s Training Committee.

Most of my professional life has been people-centric, and in addition to the above, I have worked in the public sector on youth and community programmes and then in the industrial sector with a particular interest in stress management and human resources.

I am a member of both The British Psychological Society (BPsS) and The College of Psychoanalysts (UK). In 1990 I was awarded Life Membership of The Institute for Psychotherapy and Social Studies.

I am registered with UKCP, the register of the UKCP is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

My practice is now in Rugby, Warwickshire and within easy reach of the M1, M6, and A14.

Growth with solid foundations

The Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre (CPC) incorporating the North West London (NWLPC)  was established in 1984. We are made up of a group of experienced and highly qualified psychotherapists and counsellors. Unlike many organisations, our therapists come from different schools of psychotherapy and offer a variety of approaches. This is because we understand that as a unique individual, one therapeutic approach or a combination of approaches may be more suitable for you than others.
