COLIN MCGEE

Cert Ed., Dip Psyche., Dip Hyp.

I qualified as a psychotherapist in 1990 and have run my clinical practice since then.

While I have a mixed symptomology practice, I specialise in providing psychotherapy, coaching, and supervisory support to sufferers of ADHD ASC (Autistic Spectrum Conditions) or with a dual diagnosis and their families.

My clients come from various backgrounds, including businesspeople, teachers, IT and digital specialists, photographers, film producers, actors and artists. I enjoy helping creative people through emotional blocks or challenges that affect their ability to excel. I also enjoy working with young people

My original career was as an educator and youth leader, teaching in three countries and many schools. I was Headteacher of an inner London school for children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties and the Deputy Head of a residential school for children and adults with additional needs in the US.

1984 to 1986, I trained as a counsellor for children and adults with the Inner London Education Authority. 1986 -1990, I joined the Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies, which offered a unique diploma training involving a broad range of psychoanalytic and humanistic approaches while promoting the importance a clear understanding of how the social experience influences both the profession and their clients.

In the late 1990s, the director of the Minster Centre, invited me to be the Head of Projects for the new ideas she wanted to develop. I was in charge of funding and research. We set up two successful no-fee projects. The first: training refugees as counsellors. The second: running a group supporting people suffering from relational abuse. I was also an experiential group facilitator, clinical supervisor, and tutor in their training program.

In 2003, I undertook a year-long diploma training in Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy. Since 2012, I have been Head of Psychological Services at ADDISS.

I was one of the leaders on three separate three-year-long European research projects called WHAAM, BEHAVE, and BASE. All three research projects involved close cooperation and delivered training on ADHD to between five and ten European countries while researching ways to improve access to learning and understanding of education approaches for the ADHD community, parents and schools.

I am registered with The General Hypnotherapists Register (GHT) and I am accredited practitioner with the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).
